The purpose of this blog is to document my adventures and experiences in the Northeast area of England, where I will be proselyting and serving as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for 18 months. The face of missionary work in my church has changed drastically in the past 6 months, greatly due to the fact that our leader and prophet, President Thomas S. Monson, recently lowered the required minimum age to serve among both men and women. Men can now serve starting at age 18, while women can serve at age 19. Since the announcement back in October 2012, there has been a dramatic spike in numbers of full-time missionaries serving, particularly women missionaries, jumping as much as 500 percent!
I feel honored and privileged to be an individual within this great group of young people who want to serve the Lord. In my church we believe that each person on this earth is a beloved son or daughter of their Heavenly Father and our goal in this life is to live in such a way that we can return to His presence. I want to share that knowledge with the people of England I will be serving, and be able to bring the light and hope of Christ into their lives.
My sister, Megan will be updating and posting letters here for me, so hopefully she leaves out the more embarrassing parts! Ha. I’m so grateful for all those in my life that have been a positive influence on me, and will certainly keep you all close to my heart while I’m away.
Love, Sister Zurcher
